My friends & family have been asking me for sometime now what I’ve got planned to celebrate my birthday. I’ve responded with “I’m running a half marathon”. I was obviously joking – trying to hide how bad I’m at organising anything for my birthday.
Jokes aside, I am celebrating thanks to a new PB. I’m in shock still but the official chip time proves I ran thr Vitality North London Half marathon in 2:08:50 yesterday. That is 3:08 faster than my previous PB of 2:11:58 from Bristol in October 2010 – a PB I thought I wasn’t going to get near anytime soon, let alone smash.
Not sure where that result came from but I’m chuffed. I’ve been having hamstring pain recently & with Seville marathon only a month ago, I was hoping to get round uninjured & in sub-2:15. I didn’t enjoy the race as much as last year but who cares?! The PB more than makes up for it.
So now I have a new 5km PB, 10km PB (I ran 6miles in 58:24 yesterday & have done 55mins-ish in training) & half marathon PB this year – all in the first quarter of 2016. I think the signs are good for new marathon PB this year.
Clearly, the triathlon training & having stretching goals have helped improve my fitness.
Whilst I have reduced my running from four to three sessions a week, most weeks I am swimming three times & cycling once a week; that’s a significant increase.
My hill training has been more consistent too & I’ve been running on the same course hills after my awful performance last year.
Anyway, I do have plans to celebrate my birthday today… with a sports massage!
